How your mind-set is essential to your weight

By Toby Edge

If you've got problems with your weight and you've struggled for years without ever seeing a permanent result to your problem then you need to change direction now. It is highly likely that you are being held back by your mind-set so lets briefly consider what this means.

First off, lets have a look at the self management sequence. This refers to the driving force behind all of your actions and everything you do. It pretty much goes like this:

Your actions are created by your feelings. Your feelings are created by your attitudes. Your attitudes are created by your beliefs, and your beliefs are created by your programming.

What this essentially means is that you subconscious programming will more or less determine exactly what you do and all of your actions through this self management sequence. Your programming, or mind-set, is where you need to start if you want to start supporting your weight loss efforts. Simply starting at the end and trying to change your actions is never going to work. Unfortunately, this is what most people do.

So what does this have to do with your weight?

Well, if you don't have the right programming and mind-set then your actions aren't going to get you that result. So you're not going to stick with a diet for long. You're not going to be able to say no to that dessert. You're not going to get up early for that short exercise session. Essentially, without the right mind-set, your actions will never be in line with the result you want to achieve.

If you have tried diets in the past and managed to lose weight, only to see it return soon after when you return to 'default setting' you can bet your bottom dollar that you not only have the 'wrong' mind-set, but that you are actually accerbating the problem by programming your subconscious to believe that diets don't work for you. You may see short term success, but the inevitable rebound weight gain will happen if your mind-set isn't right.

Most people only focus on the nutrition and exercise side of things when they try to lose weight. This is woefully insufficient because there's no way you're going to be able to make consistently positive decisions about nutrition and exercise if your mind-set and programming are wrong.

So before you even consider trying another diet or weight loss programme, please do focus on developing that positive, long term weight loss mind-set. If you don't you'll be sure to keep struggling.
